Nagoya Bar: Try All Bar Nagoya
Added In: Eating & Drinking › Drinking › Japanese bars
Address: Try All Bar, Nishiki 3-10-13, Naka ku, Nagoya.
In Nishiki san chome, Nagoya, there is a bar owner with an interesting history. As a young man bar owner Hori san wanted to work on a horse farm, so decamped to the USA where he worked for some time in New Hampshire. However, unable to renew his work visa he ended up homeless, and survived for 2 years living in his car and doing odd cash jobs, until eventually being picked up by immigration and deported back to Japan!
The sign outside Try All Bar says it is an Irish bar, but about the only thing Irish is the Guinness on tap! However, he does have a good selection of imported wines (from 600 yen), and an extensive knowledge of cocktails and shooters (from 700 yen).
But the real reason to go here (besides Hori san’s dazzling personality) is that this guy knows how to cook. Self taught, he would have one of the best bar menus in the city. Mostly cooking from an Italian base, but with a lot of unique twists and flavours, and all hand made (no frozen foods here).
Try All Bar stays open real late, usually until 6 or 7 AM. As such they get a lot of other bar staff coming here to drink after they finish, so it is also a good place to pick up on the new bars and restaurants in the area.
